Every time you edit the details in your direct debit settings, the status of the direct debit mandate goes back to being “created”. This is completely normal. It will go back to being “active” as soon as the next direct debit is successfully completed.
If your direct debit is “inactive”, make sure that the bank account or card you’re trying to link the direct debit to actually supports SEPA direct debits. If it does, make sure that the information you have entered is the same information your bank account has, otherwise the bank will reject it.
